The Problem:
Uncontrolled rear steer - GM really nailed it out of the part with the Alpha platform, but they had to make compromises in engineering and the car comfortable enough for everyone while being reliable, at least through the warranty period. The stock, soft bushings keep noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) at low enough levels for ol’ grandad to enjoy the car, but they wear over time and begin to deflect severely and inconsistently in the fore-aft direction under heavy load; this allows your rear subframe to move separate from the rest of the car. When launching, this triggers wheel hop. When roll racing, it causes unintended, unpredictable, and increasingly severe rear alignment changes because all rear suspension links are connected to this subframe, so when it yaws or rotates, the rear alignment goes with it. This gets more severe with time, and we have seen early third-gen CTS V-Sport models (420HP) exhibiting this issue. With the V3’s 640hp stock, we anticipate this is an issue most owners are going to have to address, especially with hard usage and higher HP numbers.
Uncontrolled vertical subframe movement - This chassis also suffers from heavy vertical movement of the rear subframe, which causes a detached and numb communication with the rear axle when driving. In severe cases, the bushings will leak a hydraulic fluid and begin to tear. Some report a clunk sound when braking/accelerating, though that is usually differential bushings. In higher powered cars, this instability appears when under high traction load and manifests like uncontrolled rear steer, similar to having a rear axle driver in a ladder fire truck. This can sometimes be merely unsafe, and other times it is a pure code brown moment.
Bushing Replacement is Costly - Yes, you can replace your stock bushings with new ones BUT it the labor costs to R&R stock bushings is well over $1,250, plus the cost of the parts, and you will face the same fate down the road again and suffer inferior performance all the while. There are higher performance, solid mounts out there too and, while we totally dig those ideas, they are a step up in time, cost, and complexity and some are irreversible.
Solution:

BENEFITS:
IMPROVED RIDE - Because we limit vertical movement of the rear subframe, it can’t “vibrate” up and down in the bushings, it lets the shocks do their superior job of dampening movement, which all increases the communication between car and driver.
IMPROVED CORNERING - With all four mounting points of the subframe are tied to the chassis, you can feel the amazing magride system actually do a better job dampening vibrations and helping your car corner flatter, faster, and more predictably. Additionally, with the subframe locked down, variability in alignment is limited to tire scrub, rear suspension links themselves, and actual flex of metal chassis/suspension components. Add a set of suspension links with the
IMPROVED ALIGNMENT CONTROL – After lessons learned on the sister platform, the venerable Camaro 6, we learned that the subframes are the foundation with which all suspension links are built on. We also know the unibody is like the ground the foundation is poured into. Essentially, think of your car upside down. From the chassis outward, you must be strong. In our case, Cadillac an award winning chassis that was the driver’s pick in its class the world over. Cadillac beefed it up even more for the V3, which is great. But it is apparent they chose pretty weak bushings to mount the rear subframe, so that’s what we address first. Whether you are straight line guy or a corner carver, the more power and grip you have, the more the factory setup will be unable to maintain rear alignment. Our kit claws the control back your way. Special notes: the Alpha chassis is notoriously sensitive to small alignment variables. After install, we HIGHLY recommend having a reputable shop perform a precise alignment on your vehicle, getting things out back as square as they possibly can, this, combined with our lockout kit, gives you the best rear axle possible.
