What is a subframe lockout kit? Great question. It is a kit that includes custom machined components of advanced, engineered materials that are designed to be inserted into existing bushings in your car. They are held in with included retaining plates and, together, serve to remove the longitudinal, lateral, and vertical movement in your car’s rear subframe.
Why would I want a subframe lockout kit for my car? You want the kit because it DRASTICALLY increases the athleticism of your Cadillac. When you realize that ALL of the rear suspension and brakes are only connected to the chassis through the rear subframe, it is apparent that solidly locating the rear subframe is critical for high performance. This is why GM (and other manufacturers) select solid aluminum for their top, competition-focused performance models. In fact, GM increased the bushings on the closely related 2025 CT5-V Blackwing Precision Package an advertised 1,000%. But they also know that these kinds of bushings are NOT well-suited for a daily driver as NVH spikes sharply on anything but the smoothest roads or racetracks.
CTS models use soda can-sized bushings that are made of metal cores with molded rubber that includes air gaps, called voids. These voids allow the subframe to move when under load, allowing unwanted alignment changes, flex, and vibration, providing inferior feel and control, even under regular conditions. They are soft and comfortable when new and perform “well enough” for gramps driving off the lot but, driven hard, the inadequacy is quickly apparent! Add age, hard driving, and additional horsepower and they are even worse, unable to hold the subframe in its place. This movement is called deflection.
Our kits largely resolve these major issues - (1) the unintended yaw at launch or under hard acceleration, a.k.a. rear steer or “sway,” where the car acts like it has a rudder; (2) constantly variable rear suspension geometry which erodes predictability and confidence in rear axle, numbing the driver’s feel for the limits whether cornering, launching, doing donuts, or drifting; this can also prematurely wear tires; (3) a rough ride as the entire steel subframe oscillates/vibrates under your car’s unibody, and; (4) damaging wheel hop under hard acceleration or whenever the tires lose traction.
Our kits were designed to resolve those issues for almost all but the highest horsepower cars. Event at 1,000HP, one recent customer stated that it reduced his sway about 80%, which was enough to restore his confidence in the vehicle.
We used 3 dimensional modeling software and torque load simulations to design our products. Our inserts are manufactured of acetal polymer for zero deterioration over time or weather conditions and milled on the most advanced CNC machines available; they fit perfectly into the voids of the factory bushings. Our retaining plates are custom, laser-cut stainless steel. And we include replacement, one-time use GM bolts. Together, our kits are a one-stop solution to give you better than factory feedback from your rear axle, predictable control, a more stable ride, and improved handling to your car.
